Soak in the beachside splendor at any of Maryland’s many waterside campsites. Maryland campers have an embarrassment of riches to choose from, but we’ve narrowed your choices down to five of the most gorgeous the state has to offer!
Camp Merryelande Vacaation Cottages in Piney Point, Maryland, is a family-friendly waterside campground offering cottages as well as campsites. All cottages have views of the water and come with Wi-Fi, satellite TV, full kitchens, and coffee makers. Enjoy the water in one of the larger campsites with your friends and family—large cabins can accommodate up to 24 guests at a time.
Assateague State Park is Maryland’s only oceanfront park and offers two miles of ocean. Visitors can enjoy swimming, beachcombing, sunbathing, surfing, and fishing, along with canoeing and kayaking. And, of course, watching the island’s famous wild ponies.
Buttonwood Beach Recreational Vehicle Resort is a little different from most other campsites of its kind. Sites are sold on long-term 99-year renewable leases, with yearly fees. If you can swing it, you’ll have your very own beachfront campsite for the rest of your life. Not bad.
Bay Shore Campground in Rock Hall, Maryland, is situated on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. The campground is right along the bay, offering “breathtaking sunsets every night and an amazing view of the landscape.” In addition, you’re sure to find good bird watching. Amenities are plentiful, and include a playground, boat ramp, electrical hookups, and much more.
A family owned and operated business, Roaring Point Waterfront Campground has been serving campers from across the country since the early 1970s. The park is small, but their goal is to offer a “pristine” experience and preserve “the traditional camping experience, which includes valuable time with friends and family.” Make sure to make time for the sensational sunsets.
