For more than 50 years, the Arnold Mills 4M Road Race has been a staple event in Cumberland, RI. Held every Fourth of July holiday, the popular four-mile race draws an average of 500 participants each and every year to the starting line, including some top talent from throughout the state and often from beyond the borders. The race, which is run on a moderately-challenging course in a rural community, takes part in conjunction with the town's annual parade. In years past, U.S. Olympians Matt Centrowitz Sr. and Pete Pfitzinger, triathlon legend Karen Smyers, and RI marathon icon Bobby Doyle have made their marks at Arnold Mills. The race will begin promptly at 9 a.m. The race starts and finishes near the Cumberland Fire Department - Station 5, 50 Arnold Mills Road, Cumberland, RI. There will be a packet pickup (Bib number, T-shirt) on July 3 from 4-6 p.m.at the Cumberland Fire Department - Station 5, 50 Arnold Mills Road, Cumberland, RI. Race day registration as well as packet pickup for pre-registered participants will take place from 7:30-8:45 a.m., at the Cumberland Fire Department.
We are expecting over 700 runners at this year's race, so please plan your time accordingly. Please arrive early as parking will be limited.
Course Info:
The Arnold Mills Road Race begins near the North Cumberland Fire Station and proceeds WEST on Nate Whipple Highway (towards Diamond Hill Rd).
The first turn which the runners take is LEFT at Abbott Run. The next turn is LEFT onto Arnold Mills Road, followed by another LEFT turn onto Quaker Rd. At Nate Whipple Highway, the runners will take another LEFT to Abbott Run Road. After turning LEFT on Abbott Run, the runners will travel down Abbott Run to Sun Valley Drive.
The runners run up Sun Valley Drive and turn RIGHT on Arnold Mills Road. The next turn is LEFT on Quaker Lane, followed by a RIGHT onto Nate Whipple Highway.
