Ready, Set Gobble! Join us for a 1-mile or 5K run/walk to celebrate fall in the park!

Come to the Chisholm Trail Turkey Trot, hosted by Lockhart State Park in collaboration with Chisholm Trail BBQ! Strut off that stuffing, enjoy music from DJ Bustin' Loose, and stick around to see if you win an amazing prize in our raffle!

We'll have two distances to choose from: 1-mile or 5K (3.1 miles), which both start at 9am. All race participants will be given a raffle ticket at check-in, which enters you to win a generous prize from one of our sponsors: Chisholm Trail BBQ, Lil' Charlie's, All Things Face Esthetic Lounge, & Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant! In addition, the first three male and female finishers for the 5K will win a free turkey, courtesy of Chisholm Trail BBQ! The raffle and awards ceremony will take place at 10am.

This event is open to runners and walkers of all speeds, along with their canine companions (on a leash, please). Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult on the course. Neither course is ADA accessible, but the 1-mile route is stroller-friendly. A race clock will be on-hand for those who wish to see their finish times. This event is rain or shine. No pre-registration is required.

Cost:
Event is free with paid entry to the park. Regular park entrance fees are $3/adult, free for children 12 & under. To save time during check-in, you can pre-pay your entrance fees up to 30 days in advance online (click here)

Course:
The starting line will be located just west of our park headquarters building. Participants will follow the paved cart paths of the golf course until they approach Park Road 10. At the road, folks participating in the 1-mile event will turn around and follow the cart path back to the headquarters building. Folks participating in the 5k event will continue right up Park Road 10 and then turn left onto Chisholm Trail. The 5k course will follow Chisholm Trail, Fence Line Trail, Creekview Trail, Hilltop Trail, and Comanche Loop before retracing its steps. The finish line is the same as the starting line for both races. Both courses will be well-marked, and an information booth will be on hand at the starting line for participants who have questions. Trails do contain narrow, rocky, and steep areas, so participants are advised to use caution. There will be water stations at the 1-mile, 2-mile, and 2.5-mile markers. Spectators are welcome to watch the race from the starting line or from the Creekview Trailhead (at the end of the paved loop in the park).
