Based on Shakespeare's "The Two Gentlemen of Verona"

"Little Jewel: In the Plagues and Throes of Love" is based on Shakespeare’s “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” and "As You Like It." The play is set amid the fearful turbulence of the Italian Renaissance and concerns the dogs that inhabit the grounds at the Duke of Milan’s castle. The animals are cared for by a milkmaid, named Magdalene, and Sir Proteus’s servant, Launce. What ruptures their seemingly idyllic life is a plague outbreak, which sends Launce into quarantine, behind castle walls. Magdalene finds she has been banished, in the terror-ridden world of a severe epidemic, part of a larger pandemic, one in which her love for Launce and her animals are, ultimately, put in jeopardy.
