Schedule Of Events:

9:00 am-4:00 pm - Günther Haidenthaller: Watercolor en Plein Air, Simplified
Watercolor has a reputation for being “hard” which is completely undeserved. Yes, it’s a bit unforgiving, but not difficult. We will first cover the basics of composition/design and dialing in the values. Then we’ll get out there into the great outdoors and go hands-on! I’ll do a short demo in how to create background washes with a variety of interesting colors, soft or even lost edges by painting wet in wet, then hard-edged darker shapes for color and temperature contrast, and establishing correct, believable values. Then I’ll turn you loose to find your own inspiration.

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm - Kevin Berend & Grace Welker: “Where I’m From” Poetry Workshop
Like visual art, writing offers a window onto our relationship with the land. Poetry provides a unique perspective to reflect on those relationships. In this workshop, we’ll read and analyze George Ella Lyon’s famous poem “Where I’m From”, then use it as a template to create our own versions from our own life experiences. Participants will be invited to share their work and engage in discussion about process, style, and technique.

Instructors will provide copies of George Ella Lyon’s poem “Where I’m From.”
