The Fauquier Education Farm 5K and Fun Run ia fundraiser to benefit the Fauquier Education Farm (https://www.fauquiereducationfarm.org/ ) We are a 501(c)(3) whose mission is, in part, to advance agriculture through education and best method farming. We also support the extended community by donating our ENTIRE harvest of produce to local food banks (over 500 tons of fresh produce in total). We rely almost exclusively on volunteers to plant and harvest our crops, and we rely 100% on donations and grants to finance this endeavor.
The Course
The certified 5K course starts at the Fauquier Education Farm, then follows a beautiful, challenging section of the Stafford Farm Trail, which is maintained by the Fauquier Equestrian Forum This scenic course will include stream crossings, wooded trails, and pathways along bucolic, rolling fields and pastures. This is truly a cross country type course, and it has its share of hills. Don’t be afraid to slow down or walk if needed. This would be an excellent opportunity to not only catch your breath, but take in the sights and sounds of the scores of bird and insect species who take advantage of the many native grasses, wildflowers, and woodlands.
The course then finishes at the Farm where you are invited to rehydrate, grab a post race snack and tour the 10 acre farm, checking out our high tunnel and greenhouse, seeing what crops we are growing, and asking questions about the Farm.
The Fun Run will be held within the fenced perimeter of the farm, and will take you through the various crops and structures of the farm itself (approximately half a mile). This is great for young kids, or anyone who doesn’t want to do the full 5K run.
