Stephen Gordon Ward was a graduate from Gorham High School and University of Maine who died in the September 11 2001 Attacks on the World Trade Center. At the time of his death he was working as a CPA for Canter Fitzgerald. The proceeds of this race benefit a college scholarship named after Stephen which provides money to a post-secondary education of a Gorham High School student.
