The I Ran the D 5k is an annual 5k celebrating Detroit sports while promoting health and wellness within our community. The event also benefits ChadTough, a local charity that raises money toward curing child brain tumors. Over the past 6 years the I Ran the D 5k has raised over $200,000 for this great charity!
The I Ran the D 5k course start at Comerica Park at the Big Tiger and runs through the streets of the Brush Park neighborhood before circumnavigating Ford Field and finishing back a Comerica Park. All participants are then invited to take a victory lap around Comerica Park field! Registration includes a safe, well organized race, hooded custom long sleeve running shirt with all four Detroit pro sports teams, custom bib and finishers medal with bottle opener.
The race will directly support the Detroit Sports Commission’s (DSC) Community Grant Program, part of the DSC’s Living Legacy Initiative, which funds local nonprofits advancing education (literacy) and youth sports (girls in sports). In 2024, the program awarded $225,000 in grants to 27 nonprofits across the City of Detroit.
Proceeds from this year’s race will contribute to the next round of community grants, reinforcing DSC’s commitment to youth development and active lifestyles through sports. The DSC’s role in uniting the local sports community and leveraging partnerships with professional teams helps create opportunities like these, ensuring that major sporting events leave a lasting local impact.
