Mt Hood Trail Run - 50K and 25K

Sunday, Jul 13, 2025 at 7:00am

Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger Station

This Mt. Hood race is a Pacific Northwest classic – it started way back in 1999 and is a summer favorite. Almost all of the 50M and much of the 50K are run on the heavily-shaded Pacific Crest Trail and both get the iconic view of the mountain. The 25K distance doesn’t use the PCT, but take racers around Clackamas and Timothy Lakes on some great single-track and double-track trails. This race is well-known for the outstanding volunteer support and friendly, old-school vibe.

We acknowledge and respect that this race occurs on the traditional homelands of the Molalla Tribe, Tenino Tribe, and the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs.

Course Info:

50K

Runners will start by running north from the Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger Station, on the Miller trail, skirting the eastern edge of Timothy Lake before joining the Pacific Crest Trail. You’ll pass through the Forest Road 58 aid station before reaching the Frog Lake aid station where you’ll turn around. You return the way you came on the PCT, until you reach the northern end of the Timothy Lake where you’ll turn onto the Timothy Lake trail running counter clockwise around the lake. After one last stop at the Dam aid station, you’ll head for the finish line rejoining the Miller trail into the Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger Station. The trail is generally soft with good footing, although there are some technical sections with rocks and roots. You are almost entirely shaded by big trees and will have an outstanding view of Mt. Hood on your way out and also when on the south side of the lake.

Total elevation gain is approximately 2,500 feet.

25K:

The 25K course starts in the same place as the 50K, but instead of heading toward Timothy Lake right away, this route will take you across Forest Service road 42 onto the Miller Trail for a short stint. Then you’ll enter new territory, continuing straight onto the Headwaters Trail. This trail is not a part of the 50M or the 50K and takes you around Clackamas Lake. You’ll cross road 42 again, near the Joe Graham horse camp, and then run on the Old 1916 Trail. Here you’ll have a few climbs and descents until you reach the first aid station at mile 5.7. From there, you’ll run about another mile to connect with the Timothy Lake trail. The soft trail takes you around the north side of the lake to the Dam aid station at mile 11.3. Then you’ll continue around the lake to the finish line. There is 1,453 feet of gain and loss in the 25K course.
