Together, we are strong enough to lift hope.
Together, we are NAMIWalks.

NAMIWalks, an annual event organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), has become a cornerstone in efforts to raise awareness about mental health. NAMIWalks Summit County, the local arm of the larger national movement, brings people together in Summit County, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health and the need for accessible resources and support systems.

With NAMIWalks, NAMI Summit County creates a safe space for open discussions about mental health, encouraging participants to share their stories and experiences. This openness helps break down barriers and fosters an understanding and supportive community.

One of the primary objectives of NAMI Summit County is to raise awareness about mental health issues and reduce the stigma associated with them. Mental health conditions affect millions of people across the United States, yet misconceptions and prejudices often prevent individuals from seeking the help they need.

During the event, attendees can enjoy refreshments from in-kind sponsors like Dunkin, Starbucks, Happy Coffee and Bruegger’s Bagels. A craft table will be available for children, as well as valuable information about mental health resources.

A Celebration of Community and Mutual Support.

The walk brings together individuals from all walks of life, including those living with mental health conditions, their families, friends, mental health professionals and advocates. This diverse group creates a strong support network, offering encouragement and understanding.

NAMIWalks Summit County provides a sense of belonging and reassurance that they are not alone. The event fosters connections between individuals and families facing similar challenges, allowing them to share resources, advice and emotional support. Connections often extend beyond the day of the walk, creating lasting relationships that continue to provide support throughout the year.

Emphasizing the Importance of Mental Health and Wellness.

The event promotes physical activity, which is known to have numerous mental health benefits including reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. The walk encourages participants to prioritize their mental and physical well-being, reinforcing that self-care is essential for a healthy and balanced life.

NAMIWalks Summit County is a critical fundraising event for NAMI Summit County. Funds raised are used to support a wide range of programs that benefit the local community. These include educational programs, support groups and advocacy efforts.
