A walking tour through the different regions of Scotland.

9:30 am - 11:00 am: Workshop: Session Playing Pt. II

We bring together the melody and rhythm groups from Friday to combine those good session playing skills. 

Location: La Veta Mercantile

11:00 am - 12:30 pm: Workshop: Scottish Fiddle

This class is for the accomplished fiddle player who would like to add elements of Scottish style to their repertoire.

11:00 am - 12:00 pm: Workshop: Guitar - Accompaniment With Style

This class is for newer guitarists and those new to Irish traditional music.

11:00 am - 12:00 pm: Demo: Sligo Style Fiddle and Michael Coleman

Oisin demonstrates the Sligo style fiddle playing of Michael Coleman and others.

12:15 pm - 1:15 pm: Ceili In The Park

Join us for an hour of dance and fun in the La Veta Park. Bring a lunch and be prepared to "kick up your heels."

1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Demo: Irish Folklore and Music: Traditional to Hip-hop

Join Tadhg for a discussion on how Irish folklore informs all genres of music, from traditional to the latest in contemporary styles.

1:30 pm - 3:00 pm: Workshop: Ensemble Playing

Working in an ensemble (for small or large groups): develop an arrangement of a set of tunes incorporating melody, rhythm, harmony, ‘horn’ parts, counterpoint, improvisation and more.

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Demo: Celtic Art and Design

Lisa Davies, artist and jewelry designer, will give an overview of the history of Celtic art, followed by a more in-depth look at the five elements of Celtic art focusing on knotwork in particular.

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Pipes in the Park

A performance event for uilleann and small pipers and for folks that enjoy the pipes.

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Demo: Highland and Dress

This presentation provides a description of tartans and the history of the kilt, women’s dress, and accessories for men and women.

Flute – Beg/Int Basic technique

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Slow Session for Pipers and Friends

A drop in, slow session for pipe retreat students and anyone who might want to join them.

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Workshop: Bouzouki – Backing a Tune

For students interested in accompanying tunes on the Bouzouki, Citern, or “other strings”.

This demonstration will contrast two similar but different instruments of these two great musicians.

In this presentation, you will learn of the turbulent culture of the Celts as illustrated by the Highland clearances and the Battle of Culloden in Scotland.
