Lancaster Station will be Rockin' The Festival from 11am - 12pm. Come join us and fly a kite, and whack a piñata or two, to celebrate the arrival of spring at the annual Free Cherry
Blossom Kite and Pinata Festival. Nathanael Greene Park will fill with activities for kids, including Mexican crafts and kits to decorate your own kite before launching it to the sky. Performances will take place throughout the afternoon with concession and retail vendors ready to greet customers.
Kite flying in Japan represents the welcome coming of spring and historically a wish for kids' healthy growth, while the fun of whacking piñatas symbolizes in Mexican culture a resilience in overcoming life's challenges. This annual spring festival promotes SSCA's mission of promoting greater cultural awareness, particularly with Springfield's sister cities in Isesaki, Japan, and Tlaquepaque, Mexico.
This year's festival is presented by Missouri Humanities, the Missouri Arts Council and the Missouri Division of Tourism as one of eight statewide Horizon events. The SSCA hosts the festival in partnership with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. Sponsors include Renewal by Andersen and LeafFilter. The SSCA is committed to providing a universal access to this event.
