Alaska residents who choose to fish for personal use or subsistence can buy a special license to take advantage of fisheries that are set aside solely for this type of angling. Not all such fisheries require a license. All other types of non-commercial angling require a sport fishing license. Residents under the age of 18 or non-residents under 16 are not required to buy a sport fishing license. Resident senior citizens over the age or 60 or disabled vets are able to apply for a ADF&G identification card in order to partake in sport fishing. There is no charge for these licenses, but an application is required. Most sport anglers are required to keep a harvest record card. Licenses and record cards are available from official license vendors, Alaska Department of Fish and Game offices, and online at the ADF&G website.
