This jewel of a park is a great place to get away for a weekend or a week-long vacation.

Trails allow visitors to explore the park and see the diverse wildlife, including the red-cockaded woodpecker, and natural communities such as pine flatwoods and sandhill. A boat ramp provides easy access to the river. Both freshwater and saltwater fish inhabit the waters around the park, including largemouth bass, bream, catfish and speckled perch.

For overnight visitors, there are full-facility campsites with access to restrooms and showers. Youth group camping is also available. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent at the ranger station.

Picnic facilities and a swimming area are located near the scenic point where the Ochlockonee and Dead Rivers intersect.

Experiences

Bicycling
Bicycling is allowed on the park's multi-use trails, the scenic drive and the park drive. Bicycles are also available for rent at the ranger station for $10.00 a day.  Helmets are highly recommended for all cyclists and Florida law requires helmets for cyclists age 16 and under.

Birding
Birding is a popular activity at Ochlockonee River State Park. We are one of only a few parks that is home to a resident population of Red Cockaded Woodpeckers. Visitors may also see the Bachman’s Sparrow and many other birds during their visit. The river is home to many Osprey, Eagles and many species of hawks are seen during the fall migration.

Boating
Boating is a popular activity at the park especially in the summertime. The Ochlockonee River is a great place to bring the family for an afternoon of tubing or skiing or just to ride the river and take in the natural beauty of this undeveloped area.

Camping
The park is equipped with a 30-site campground with three accessible sites. 28 sites offer 30 amp service only and two sites have 50 amp service. All sites have water hookups, fire ring, picnic table and clothes line. A dump station is provided for your convenience. The comfort station located within the campground provides restrooms and hot showers, an outside sink for washing dishes and water fountains.

One campsite is available for hammock camping in the campground (site #14) it can be reserved through Reserve America. It has one three-hammock hanging structure on it. It is the only hammock accessible campsite in our campground due to the live oak canopy. Maximum RV length = 40 ft.

Camping, Primitive Group
A primitive group campground is provided on the banks of the Dead River off the scenic drive. This site is a great spot for scouting groups and other organized youth groups. Showers and potable water are available on the site as well as a large fire ring and bench seating. A large table is provided for cooking.  Reservations for this site can be made by calling the Ranger Station 850-962-2771.

Paddling
The park provides access to some of the best canoe and kayaking opportunities in the area. There are miles and miles of tidal creeks and rivers to explore in this area of Florida. Maps are provided at the Ranger Station and on the park's webpage to help you decide which direction to head first. Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards are available for rent at the ranger station for $20 a day.  There is an accessible kayak launch available at the boat ramp.

Fishing
The brackish waters of the park provide excellent fresh and saltwater fishing. There is an accessible dock on the Dead River that can be used for fishing, and the Ochlockonee River shoreline is accessible from the main picnic area.

All fishing within the park must conform to regulations concerning size, number, method of capture and season.  A fishing license may be required.  More information is available at the Florida Wildlife Commission’s Fishing in Florida.

Geo-Seeking
Explore the park in a new and challenging way. Experienced Geocachers have requested permission to hide caches containing trinkets, treasures, or information in various places around the park.  Please check the Geocaching website for the most current and up-to-date information and clues to locate these caches.

Hiking
The park has two designated hiking trails, Ochlockonee River Nature Trail and Pine Flatwoods Nature Trail.

Star Gazing
The park is located in an area free of light pollution making it a great place to star gaze.

Swimming
A swimming area is located on the Dead River in the day-use area of the park.

Wildlife Viewing
Wildlife viewing is one this parks greatest draws. Visitors commonly see a wide range of upland wildlife and birds.  The Park has an accessible scenic drive that loops through picturesque North Florida flatwoods.

Picnic Pavilion
Four picnic pavilions are located in the main day-use area of the park.  Two of these pavilions are accessible via paved sidewalks from the parking area.  Picnic pavilions are first-come first-served, or can be reserved by calling the Ranger Station.

Playground
A playground is located in the day-use area. It is equipped with a slide, swings and pull up bars. It is conveniently located close to the Dead River Pavilion and swimming area.

Shower Station
Outdoor shower stations are available in the day use area near the swimming area and an accessible shower station at Dead River pavilion.

Canoe Kayak Launch
There is an accessible kayak launch located at the boat ramp area.  Canoes and kayaks can launch from the boat ramp.

Boat Ramp
The accessible boat ramp provides easy access to the Ochlockonee River, Dead River, Sopchoppy River and countless tidal creeks. There are restrooms and a fish cleaning station at the boat ramp parking area.
