Freedom Jazz Choir, Dir. Tiffany Austin | Healdsburg Jazz Collective; 1-3:30 pm
Healdsburg Community Church | 1100 University Ave | Healdsburg
Since 2012, the Healdsburg Freedom Jazz Choir, led by Music Director Tiffany Austin, has served the community as a free educational program that performs annually and continues to thrive under the leadership of vocalist, composer, and arranger Tiffany Austin. The theme of this year’s choir performance is “Roots and Rhythm: Celebrating the Blues and Beyond.” Blues is the keystone of Black musical expression on these shores, encompassing art forms like ring shouts, field hollers, and gospel and germinating into the styles we know as jazz, rock, soul, R&B and beyond.
The Healdsburg Jazz Collective (HJC) is a group of accomplished and celebrated musicians who live and primarily perform in Healdsburg and Sonoma County. The purpose is to highlight and support the incredible talent of musicians, composers, and arrangers who make their home in Sonoma County. Artistically, the HJC will focus on original compositions, original arrangements, and themes unique to life in Sonoma County.

Late Concert and Jam with the Sylvia Cuenca Trio; 9:30 – 11:30 p.m.
Healdsburg Hotel Spirit Bar | 25 Matheson Street | Healdsburg
Presented by Healdsburg Jazz MAJOR sponsor Hotel Healdsburg
San Jose-reared drummer Sylvia Cuenca had only been in New York City for a few months when Joe Henderson hired her for a European tour, the start of a four-year working relationship with the tenor saxophone legend. She spent 17 years performing regularly with trumpet great Clark Terry, with whom she accompanied distinguished guest artists such as Al Grey, Red Holloway, Jimmy Heath, Frank Wess, Marian McPartland, Dianne Reeves, Joe Williams, and Lou Donaldson, to name a few. Now a deft bandleader in her own right, she plays a trio set of hard swinging blues-tinged modern jazz before her group hosts an exciting all-star jam session featuring musicians in town for the Festival in the beautiful club atmosphere of the Spirit Bar located in the Hotel Healdsburg. The Spirit Bar is a favorite of locals and visitors alike, offering a menu of enticing small bites, craft cocktails and beer, and a broad sampling of wine.
