This Mt. Hood race is a Pacific Northwest classic – it started way back in 1999 and is a summer favorite. Almost all of the 50M and much of the 50K are run on the heavily-shaded Pacific Crest Trail and both get the iconic view of the mountain. The 25K distance doesn’t use the PCT, but take racers around Clackamas and Timothy Lakes on some great single-track and double-track trails. This race is well-known for the outstanding volunteer support and friendly, old-school vibe.
We acknowledge and respect that this race occurs on the traditional homelands of the Molalla Tribe, Tenino Tribe, and the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs.
Schedule:
Bib & merchandise pickup: 5:00 am -5:45 a.m.
Pre-race announcements: 5:50 a.m.
Start 6:00 a.m.
Photo ID is required to pick up your bib (don’t forget it). There is no early start for any of the distances.
Course Info:
The race starts out from the Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger Station on the Miller trail. After crossing road 57 and dropping down to the edge of Timothy Lake, you’ll run over a bridge and then turn left onto the Pacific Crest trail. This first half of the race is the easier part of the course and has the big trees and stunning Mt. Hood views the race is famous for. You’ll stay on the Pacific Crest trail, passing through the first aid station at the Forest Road 58 crossing, and then turning back around at the Frog Lake aid station. You return the way you came, arriving at the aid station at the start/finish area.
The second portion of the course is hillier and more exposed and will be in the warmer part of the day. Leaving the start/finish area heading east, you’ll cross road 42 and get back on the Miller trail going the other direction for a short while and then connect to the Pacific Crest Trail again, going south this time. You’ve got a significant climb up to the Red Wolf aid station, and then a drop down to Warm Springs river and then another climb up to the Warm Spring aid station. Then you’ll turn around going back the same way you came, revering those climbs and descents, to get to that finish line.
